Simple homemade pizza dough

I am not a baker and rarely will you find breads, cookies, cakes or dough on my site or being made in my kitchen.  The exception to this is if it is almost more difficult to walk to an additional store aisle to pick the item up to purchase it then it is to make it at home.  Pancakes, I’m talking to you!   Our family loves pizza and this dough recipe is my go-to.  It’s easy, tasty and impossible to mess up.  My favorite way to eat it is on the grill, although you can make any pizza recipe from it in the oven, following the basic oven instructions which I’ll provide below.

Make-your-own grilled pizza on a summer evening is my favorite meal to make for a crowd and especially fun when you have little ones around.  I generally put out a pizza sauce as well as a garlic ranch and numerous veggies, meats, herbs and cheeses.  This generally consists of whatever the hell I have in my fridge and/or pantry.  Enjoy!

Description

This super easy pizza dough will make around 3 small-medium pizzas, depending on how thick you like the crust. I always double the recipe and freeze the extra for another day!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 t salt
  • 1 1/2 t sugar
  • 1 T quick rise yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 T olive oil

Instructions

Pour water and yeast into a stand up mixer bowl or large bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.  Add sugar, salt and olive oil and stir or mix lightly.  To the wet mixture, add flour and either mix together with hands or mixer attachment until combined.  Cover with plastic wrap (I like to spray mine with cooking spray!) and leave to rise for 1-2 hours.

To bake, roll out dough and place on a greased baking sheet.  Top with ingredients and bake at 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

To grill, make sure you are making several small pizzas instead of a giant one or you’ll have a mess on your hands!   Pour a couple tablespoons of olive oil on each side before throwing on the grill (without toppings!!!!) for about 1-2 minutes on each side.   You want to just barely start cooking the dough so it’ll maintain it’s shape when you load it up.  Take the dough off the grill, add your favorite toppings and put it back on, over a low to medium heat for around 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and and before the bottom burns!
